Nepeta, commonly known as catnip, catswort, catwort, and catmint, is a species of the genus Nepeta in the family Lamiaceae. Most of these types of catnip have grayish green, heart-shaped leaves with fine hairs. All have the classic square stem of the mint family. The small, bilabiate flowers of Nepeta are fragrant and are either pink in colour or white with fine spots of pale purple.
