- An early variety of Hydrangea paniculata (bouquet hydrangea), one of the earliest blooming hydrangeas.
- Develops a compact, dwarf and ball-shaped habit.
- Its flower buds appear already in May and open in June; when young its inflorescences are cream white and turn pink with age to become purple red towards the end of blooming; displays fertile and sterile flowers gathered in loose, cone-like inflorescences set on stiff red stems.
- Due to its dwarfish size can be grown in smaller gardens; thrives in sunny and half-shaded positions in rich, fertile and slightly acidic soils.
- Cold hardy.
