- A low groundcover shrub. It branches vigorously. It has a hemispherical habit. It grows to 1.2 m in height and width.
- It blooms profusely with dark red, single flowers with prominent yellow stamens in April-May. It is a melliferous plant. The flowers appear before the leaves develop.
- The apple-shaped fruit, up to 5 cm in diameter, is green, later yellow, and very firm. It ripens in October-November. It is used for preserves, tinctures, and syrups. It replaces lemons.
- The plant is relatively easy to grow. It grows well in any garden soil, in sun and light shade. It is resistant to drought and air pollution.
