• Slovakian cross, introduced in Germany, 1990.
  • Vase shaped shrub with branching from the base, fast-growing but shorter (2 m) and more compact than the standard.
  • Boasts attractive dark glossy leaves which turn superb orange/red hues in autumn.
  • Blooms earlier than other cultivars, displays white flowers with red stamens in spring; attractive to bees and butterflies.
  • Gives large glossy black fruits, twice as big as those which grow in the wild, held in clusters; they stay in a shrub for a long time, until birds eat them; high in vitamins (mainly Vit. C), minerals and antioxidants; commercially grown especially for juice, commonly used for jams, jellies and syrups.
  • Does fine in a little wet or dry soil, in full sun or partial shade.
  • Recommended as orchard plant, also good for landscaping (naturalizing, as border shrub or erosion control plant).
  • Cold hardiness -37°C.
