A giant fruit black chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) and purple chokeberry (Aronia x prunifolia) are fruit shrubs from the Rosaceae family which grow up to 2.5 m high. Chokeberries bloom in May and display ornamental white flowers which are attractive for bees and butterflies. They yield black and purple berries which develop on the shrub from August till October. They are rich in vitamins, anthocyanin dyes and microelements. They also boast therapeutic properties and are excellent for preserves (such as juices, jams, fruit liqueurs and others).
