It is usually a small tree abundantly producing small, yellow or reddish-purple fruit. The plant is grown on a large scale in nurseries of fruit plants, as a rootstock on which fruit varieties of plums are grafted. During the flowering period, the trees are covered with a mass of small white flowers.
