Davidia

Davidia involucrata Baill. is an extremely interesting tree that in our climate grows up to 10 m high (depending on the variety). The leaves are green, seasonal, similar to those of a linden tree, and often turn yellow in autumn.

The tree is most decorative in spring (May/June), when its unique flowers appear. The single inflorescence has the shape of a spherical head, but the decoration is made up of two white bracts. The flowering tree looks as if it is hung with white handkerchiefs, which is why it is often called a “handkerchief tree”.
