The Tayberry (Rubus hybr.) belongs to the Rosaceae family. The cross of Rubus fruticosus and Rubus idaeus resulted in a new cultivar which boasts the features of those two varieties. After the raspberry it has giant sweet fruits which are dark red in hue and after the blackberry it has strong, well-branched, thorny or thornfree (depending on a variety) shoots which reach even 4 m in length. It is a long-lived shrub which is a little more demanding in cultivation than its parental varieties. It blooms rather late – in June, but its fruits ripen quite fast.
