• A dwarf shrub. It has a compact, hemispherical shape.
  • After 10 years of cultivation, it grows to approximately 0.4 m (1 ft) tall and 0.6 m (2 ft) wide.
  • The leaves are oval, light green, and glossy, and do not fall off in winter.
  • The flowers are quite large, bright red with darker mottling on the upper petal. They are gathered in showy inflorescences at the tops of the shoots. It blooms profusely in the second half of May.
  • It prefers acidic, well-drained soil (pH 3.5–4.5) and a sunny or partially shaded location.
  • This variety is frost-hardy, but it is advisable to plant it in a location sheltered from winter winds
