- A slow-growing (dwarf) shrub. It has a compact, tufted habit. After 10 years, it reaches 0.5-1 m in height.
- The leaves are light green, semi-evergreen.
- The flowers are large and double (6-6.5 cm in diameter), light lilac (rarely seen in Japanese azaleas), with delicate dark pink flecking on some petals. It blooms in May.
- It prefers a partially shaded location, an acidic pH, and average, moderately moist garden soil.
- It is most often planted in home gardens, but also in parks, rock gardens, and heathlands.
- It is moderately frost-hardy, but requires sheltered, partially shaded locations and winter protection.
