(Liquidambar L.) – a genus of plants belonging to the Altingiaceae family. Often planted as an ornamental tree, in part because of the vibrant colors of its leaves that turn red in autumn. Its balsamic resin is used in medicine, the cosmetics industry, and the food industry. Sweetgums also provide valuable timber.
