Dogwood is a genus of shrubs in the Cornelian cherry family. It includes 50 species. Many species in this genus are cultivated as ornamental plants, due to their showy inflorescences, leaves, or decorative shoots in winter. They are undemanding plants. They can be planted in virtually any moderately fertile soil. They tolerate a wide pH range and are frost-resistant. They grow best in full sun but tolerate partial shade quite well.
