Lingonberry

(Vaccinium vitis-idaea L.)

Lingonberry is a species of perennial plant in the heather family (Ericaceae). It occurs in temperate and cool zones throughout the northern hemisphere. In Poland, it is common in both lowlands and mountains. It is a low shrub, growing to 15–25 cm in height, forming dense tufts. The fruit is a shiny berry, initially creamy white, turning red as it ripens. The plant is used as a raw herbal ingredient and in cooking.
